Bourns' latest miniature recoverable Thermal fuse (TCO) device components are available
Bourns, a global leader in the manufacture of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, has introduced a new family of miniature recoverable thermal fuses (TCO), also known as mini circuit breakers, which feature real-time control of temperature anomalies, excessive currents and fast handling of conditions up to the rated limit. The new NX series has a higher current carrying capacity while achieving an extremely low design in terms of form factor, featuring an ultra-thin package with a height of 0.94 mm and a body width of 2.8 mm. These characteristics make the series an ideal overtemperature and overcurrent protection solution for energy-dense, smaller batteries such as lithium polymer and square batteries, especially for next-generation laptop and flat panel batteries, as well as handheld and wearable electronic devices.
Brian Ahearne, Vice President of Product and Technology at Bourns Thermal & Precision Division, said: "Our new NX series has almost the same size as the NR series, but can carry up to 40 percent more current. This is due to numerous design innovations, including the use of new highly conductive electrode materials, which allow customers to reduce the size of their products while still maintaining a high level of over-temperature and over-current protection, improving product reliability and safety."
The new NX series has a flow capacity of 12A to 20A at 60 °C and can be selected with or without convex points. Providing design flexibility for a variety of application environments, these TCO components are available in four different trip temperature options of 77 °C, 82 °C, 85 °C and 90 °C, all operating in the ±5 °C range. The NX series models also feature a highly corrosion-resistant bimetal mechanism design for greater durability in wet environments than standard TCO components.
