Bourns introduces a new series of high-power, ultra-low ohm current detection resistors -CSS. This latest current measurement device can help power electronics developers save energy and improve the performance detection of their product designs. The CSS family of products has a low resistance temperature coefficient (TCR) to maintain operational accuracy and demonstrate long-term stability over a wide temperature range.

     Bourns introduces a new series of high-power, ultra-low ohm current detection resistors -CSS. This latest current measurement device can help power electronics developers save energy and improve the performance detection of their product designs. The CSS family of products has a low resistance temperature coefficient (TCR) to maintain operational accuracy and demonstrate long-term stability over a wide temperature range. Low resistance levels, low thermal electromotive force (EMF) and the ability to operate at high power make it an ideal solution for a variety of industrial and power electronics applications, including battery management systems, switching power supplies and motor drives.

     Brian Ahearne, product line manager at Bourns, said the current detection resistor market will become increasingly popular because of their high measurement accuracy and lower cost compared to other technologies. Bourns introduced this new high power current detection resistor to give designers a more accurate device for higher power applications and to help them monitor voltage drops at both ends of the resistor and convert current readings to improve the efficiency of circuit operations.

     The Bourns CSS series offers a choice of 2 and 4 terminals, and the 2 terminal models are subdivided into three different component sizes of 5930, 3920 and 2512. The 4-terminal device allows very accurate resistance measurements of 4 Kelvin(K). Their metal alloy current detection components allow low heat EMF and 50 PPM TCRs in the temperature range of 20 to 60 ° C. Both series options offer resistance values as low as 0.5 milliohm, and customers can choose from a range of low resistance options and power ratings up to 9W.
