Avago Technologies introduces small size autofocus assist flash LED

     Avago Technologies has introduced two series of compact leds that reduce space requirements for autofocus assist flash functions in digital camera designs. The new ASMT-FJ70 and ASMT-FG70 devices are the thinnest and smallest leds on the market, providing the brightness required for autofocus in dark Settings.

     The ASMT-Fx70 LED comes in a tiny, environmentally friendly 3.6 (L) x 3.2 (W) x 3.4 (H) mm surface mount package that helps meet the market demand for thinner digital cameras. This LED features a transparent non-diffusing lens that produces high brightness through a narrow radiation mode, providing stable, consistent optical performance for precise autofocus. The ASMT-FJ70 device is orange, and the ASMT-FG70 device is the industry's first green auxiliary flash LED of this size.

     Francis Khor, Director of Product Marketing at Avago Optoelectronics, said: "Digital cameras continue to shrink in size as they increase in functionality and capacity, and our new auxiliary flash LED helps designers meet this challenge by increasing the functionality per square inch of the camera. "The Avago ASMT-Fx70 LED offers both advantages in a compact design package without sacrificing autofocus performance."

     The ASMT-FJ70 device uses aluminum Indium Gallium Phosphide (AlInGaP) material technology and has a 12-degree viewing Angle, while the ASMT-FG70 device uses Indium Gallium nitride (InGaN) material technology and provides a 14-degree viewing Angle. The luminous efficiency of these two technologies is extremely high, enabling high light output over a wide range of driving currents. The narrow view provides the long range illumination and narrow Angle beam mode required for the autofocus assist flash feature.
