An iot platform for generative AI applications is unveiled

    MediaTek launches high-performance Genio 720 and Genio 520 edge ai iot platforms. These new products in the Genio family support the latest generative AI models, HMI, multimedia and connectivity capabilities for smart home, retail, industrial and commercial iot devices.

     With superior edge performance and built-in Mediatek 8th-generation NPU, these devices offer up to 10 TOPS, providing full hardware acceleration for transformer and CNN models. In addition, these devices offer increased memory performance, up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, to support data-intensive edge-optimized LLMS such as Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek, and to accelerate generative AI tasks. Backed by the company's extensive global AI ecosystem, developers can use leading global language models and common frameworks to efficiently deploy multimodal generative AI applications and bring products to market faster.

     "The Genio 720 and Genio 520 will usher in a new era of iot innovation with powerful and efficient generative AI capabilities on the device, providing a seamless user experience while ensuring data privacy," said Wang Guoqiang, general manager of the iot Business Group at Mediatek. "Through our integration of NVIDIA TAO for Edge AI applications, developers can extend their designs to different products and form factors, from smart retail displays to complex industrial HMI applications."

     Using a 6nm process node, the device integrates an octa-core CPU, two Arm Cortex-A78 processors, and six Cortex-A55 processors to optimize performance and power efficiency. These efficient iot platforms are optimized for low power consumption, making them suitable for mobile devices that require fanless housing and battery power.

     With advanced multimedia capabilities, the device is ideal for business displays, smart retail devices, HMI applications, and other multi-window or interactive applications. The unified hardware and software design of these iot platforms makes it easy for developers to write once and run anywhere, while also allowing customization to meet specific application needs.

     The Genio 720/520 also supports OSM (Open Standard Module), and its reference design ensures power and signal integrity, which greatly reduces the user's development cycle in OSM. The company partners plan to launch an OSM solution based on Genio 720/520 in the second half of this year, which could accelerate time to market for many applications.
