Ams introduces sensors for adjustable white light smart lighting systems

     Ams has announced the introduction of the AS7225 Adjustable White Light Smart Lighting System sensor, further expanding the sensor-integrated adjustable white lighting solution. With the introduction of the AS7225, lighting equipment Oems can use AMS 'closed-loop color temperature tuning and daylight compensation technology in their existing microprocessor-based smart lighting designs. This will enable higher product accuracy and more flexible LED grading, while reducing the system cost of adjustable white lighting.

     The AS7225 is equipped with the industry's first color sensor based on the International Commission on Lighting (CIE) 1931 color space XYZ triple stimulus, enabling more accurate color perception. The CIE standard is the accepted standard for human color perception. Color temperature and daylight adjustment instructions can be transmitted to the host microprocessor via a standard I2C interface, enabling iot smart lighting manufacturers to effectively avoid expensive calibration and algorithm development adjustments while reducing deployment time.

     Tom Griffiths, senior marketing manager, AMS Semiconductor, said: "As the lighting industry continues to evolve in the direction of regulation, closed-loop drive solutions with integrated sensors not only increase the accuracy of white light or daylight regulation, but also reduce the requirements for LED grading and system components. This not only reduces overall material costs, but also saves time and money in material management and manufacturing processes."

     The AS7225 is the latest addition to AMS 'SenseTM family of intelligent lighting managers. The highly efficient AS7225 is available in a 4.5 x 4.7mmLGA package, allowing for flexible integration into lighting, light engines and a wider range of existing lighting replacements, such as linear T-LED products. The device provides accurate CCT regulation management for the warm and cool white LED strings inside the luminaire. In addition to CCT regulation, the AS7225 can also be used to detect the light environment outside the luminaire to provide accurate daylight management or to combine CCT and daylight sensing with the AMS TSL4531 ambient light sensor.

     Tom Griffiths added, "Recent LED price trends suggest that leds will no longer be the most basic cost element in commercial lighting. This means that within a few years, adjustable lighting will become the standard for new commercial lighting installations. The benefits of superior lighting in terms of comfort, productivity and health have long been proven, and now that the cost of achieving superior lighting is gradually decreasing, adjustable lighting will be a key factor in realizing a range of benefits through LED smart lighting platforms."
