Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has introduced a high-voltage transistor output photorelay for 400V automotive battery-related control systems. Housed in a compact SO12L-T package, the TLX9150M produces a minimum breakdown voltage (VOFF) of 900V with a maximum reaction (TON/TOFF) time of 1ms.

     Toshiba Electronics Europe Ltd. has introduced a high-voltage transistor output optical relay for 400V automotive battery-related control systems. The TLX9150M comes in a compact SO12L-T package that produces a minimum breakdown voltage (VOFF) of 900V and a maximum reaction time (TON/TOFF) of 1ms. This is critical for controlling sensitive applications such as battery and fuel cell control and BMS for monitoring voltage and detecting mechanical relay viscosity and ground faults.

     The device consists of an infrared emitting diode optically coupled to a photoelectric mosfet, providing electrical isolation between the primary (control) side and the secondary (switching) side, allowing for safe switching control at different ground potentials. The trigger current (IFT) is greater than 3mA, minimizing system energy consumption. In addition, the device's off state current (IOFF) is only 100nA (maximum) at ambient temperature and consumes minimal power in the inactive state. The forward current (IF) rating of the infrared LED is 30mA, while the conducting current (ION) rating of its light detection element in the environment is 50mA.

     In addition, the TLM9150M is packaged in the new SO12L-T package with a space-saving form factor of 7.76mm x 10mm x 2.45mm, which is 25% smaller than the company's existing SO16L-T package. This helps to miniaturize battery cells and reduce costs. The pin spacing and layout are the same for both package sizes, allowing for a common board pattern design. With 8mm (min) creepage and clearance distances and 0.4mm (min) insulation thickness, this normally open (1-Form-A) device confirms effective isolation even in the operating temperature range of -40 ° C to +125 ° C, and is fully compliant with AEC-Q101 and IEC 60664-1 standards.
