16-bit Universal Input/Output (GPIO) extension

Nexperia's NCA9555 provides 16-bit universal Input/Output (GPIO) extensions for I²C bus /SMBus applications. It is designed for a wide voltage range of 1.65V to 5.5V and has interrupt and default pull-up resistance on the gpio. When additional IOs is needed, the Nexperia GPIO extender provides an elegant solution while keeping interconnections to a minimum, such as ACPI power switches, sensors, buttons, leds, fan controls, and more.

The NCA9555 contains a set of 8-bit input, output, configuration, and polarity reversal registers. Default input on startup for all IOs. Each IO can be configured as input or output by changing the corresponding bit in the configuration register. Each input or output data is stored in the corresponding input or output register. The polarity reversal register can be programmed to reverse the polarity of the input register.

NCA9555 has an open interrupt output that is activated when any GPIO changes the state of its corresponding input port register. The power-on reset sets the register to its default value and initializes the device state machine. The NCA9555 has three address pins A0, A1, and A2 that can be used to configure the device's I²C bus slave address. It allows up to 8 devices to share the same I²c bus /SMBus.
